History

Founded in 1785, Saint John is Canada’s first incorporated city—and a city of firsts. It was home to the Country’s first high school, first paved street, and a history rooted in shipbuilding, commerce, and innovation. Nestled on the edge of the Bay of Fundy, The Boardwalk sits at the heart of one of the world’s most spectacular coastal ecosystems, where the tides rise and fall dramatically twice each day—the highest tides in the world. Historically a major trade route and cultural crossroads, this area launched world-famous ships like the Marco Polo, once the fastest vessel on the seas.

The Boardwalk has long been a vibrant stage for unforgettable music and celebrations, and now, with its major redevelopment, it is entering an exciting new era as an even more dynamic place to make memories through performances, lively entertainment, and culinary experiences.
